I quite agree with you and a university student(senior) to invite violet san to give his comment in English to let us see how his English is good to hold his statement. I'm in the opinion, too, to invite "a university student(senior) san and you to give your opinion in English to show how good yours is, too. My English is poor, as you may very well see, but I dare have written in English to let this discussion be fruitfull and invite as many senior English learner to participate in this discussion in English as possible.
I respect violet san for his apparently high proficiency of English which he must have aquired through listning to NPR and reading various kind of English magazines. But I think there are two types of people, ones who are fond of studying through reading and listning to the hard materials like NPR or magazines like "Time" or "News Week", the others who are fond of reading paperbacks. I belong to the latter group. I have studied English mainly through heavy reading of paperbacks for three years and passed the examination of guide test.
