かの英文法の大家、Sir Randolph Quirk も、NHKのインタビューの中で
間違っておられたんじゃないかと思います。
よく聞き取れなかったので、確信はありませんが。。

Grammar and vocabulary, the words we use and the patterns in which we
operate those words, belong together. You can't really separate
grammer from dictionary. And the best dictionaries are those that
have the most grammar in them and the best grammars are those that
have most words-specific information. And I want to stress that
particularly because the best dictionaries that embrace grammar in
that way were evolved in Japan. It's not always known perhaps by your
countrymen but in the 1930s British scholars like Harold Palmer and
A.S. Hornby worked here with bright young Japanese minds and they
struggled to achieve the best way of presenting English in a foreign
language culture. And the dictionary of Hornby's was published in
1942 right here in Japan. And [　　　　　　　　　　]　the great
Longman Dictionary, the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English,
was founded and has developed that essential British work. And I'm
proud that the Longman grammars and the Longman dictionaries have
emerged, as it were, from the challenge of Japan.

さて、私も、Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary を愛用していますが、
Canon の wordtank という電子辞書を使っています。
コンパクトですし、パッと引けるので、とても便利です。いろんな検索もできます。
