Big Jump of OKUNOJIMA's Saff

Last week I went to Hiroshima with 60 students and 4 teachers and 1 nurse and 1 camerawoman. Students were 6-grade. So that trip was called ‘SHUGAKU RYOKOU’. It means the school trip for graduate students.

We stayed overnight at OKUNOJIMA island. It is a small island in Setonaikai area and located in east of Hiroshima. This island was used for Japan Imperial Army from 1929 to 1945. They made poison gas and used mainly in China.
Students learned the brutality of war at Hiroshima Peace Park. After that, they came to the island. They could enjoy sleepover in Okunojima, and learned the another aspect of war.

But nowadays, visiting Okunojima is a very good place for vacation. The scenery is beautiful, the hotel is modern. Besides, the hotel stuffs were very gentle and smart. We can enjoy the atmosphere of peace, fishing, cycling, star watching etc.

When we leave the island, three hotel stuffs, one was young woman and two were young men, escorted us to the pier. We boarded on a ship and we were going to leave for Mihara port.

Students waved to the stuffs in farewell, and they waved too. All of sudden, one of stuffs made a big jump from the pier, turned somersault and dove into the cold sea. And the two other stuffs also jumped and dove into the sea one after another. All of them wore working clothes.

Students cheered and shouted for them to hope another jumps. The stuffs climbed to the pier immediately and jumped again. They jumped several times. Even they jumped with hand in hand.

I had known that performance since several years ago. One of male stuffs made such jumps. But this time, I was very amazed. Because in spite of young woman made such jumps. I admire their courage and efforts to attract visitors. But I believe it is not good for people especially for students to show such peculiar doings. I believe diving in late autumn is crazy. They must attract people by another way. I think Okunojima was very beautiful and their services were very good. They were enough.
